A car that meets the Uber and DiDi rules
Uber and DiDi each set their own rules for the cars on their apps in Perth, such as vehicle age, safety rating, seats and inspections. In WA a rideshare car also needs a Passenger Transport Vehicle authorisation and 3F motor injury insurance. These rules change, so check the current versions:
- Uber vehicle requirements for Perth
- DiDi driver requirements for Perth
- WA Department of Transport: on-demand transport
We source cars to order through our dealer network, and hold some stock. Tell us which app you drive for before you choose, and we will look for a car that fits its current list before you sign anything.
Driving for DiDi too
Everything on this page works the same for DiDi drivers. Plenty of Perth drivers run both apps to fill quiet hours. If that is you, say so up front, so the car we find suits both platforms.
Renting a car vs owning one after three years
When you rent a car for rideshare, you hand the keys back at the end and have nothing to show for years of payments. On a Toybrids plan, your weekly payments go toward the car. Finish a 2, 3 or 4 year plan and it is yours outright. We compare the two in more detail in renting vs owning a car for rideshare drivers.
Big kilometres? Running costs matter
Fuel is one of a driver's biggest weekly costs, which is why most of our enquiries are still for hybrids. Electric cars are on offer too. There are no kilometre limits on your plan. See whether a hybrid is worth it in Perth for the fuel maths.
What is in the weekly payment, and what is not
- In it: registration, and one flat weekly subscription fee with no interest. The rideshare costs show in the calculator when you tick the rideshare box.
- Organised at pick-up: insurance, priced on your driving history. You can bring your own policy.
- Not in it: servicing, unless written into your contract before you sign. Our service centre offers discounted logbook servicing.
- Up front: a deposit from $2,000, depending on the car. It is not refundable.
Your quote and written contract confirm every figure. Ask your accountant what you can claim as a rideshare business cost.

Before you sign any rent-to-own contract
WA Consumer Protection has urged caution with rent-to-own car deals. We agree. Whoever you go with, get clear answers to these five questions first:
- What is the total cost over the whole term, not just the weekly amount?
- What happens if you stop paying, or need to hand the car back early?
- Who pays for servicing, insurance, registration and major repairs?
- What do you own at the end, and when does the car go into your name?
- Is every promise written into the contract you sign?
Our answers are in writing on our rent-to-own terms page and in your quote. Read them before you pay a deposit.
Uber and DiDi drivers: questions we get
›Do you run a credit check?
No. Toybrids does not run a traditional bank credit check. What matters is whether the weekly payment fits what you earn.
›Can I drive for Uber and DiDi in the same car?
Many drivers use both apps. Each platform has its own vehicle rules, so tell us both before you choose and we will look for a car that meets the current rules of each.
›Are there kilometre limits?
No. There is no weekly or yearly kilometre cap on a Toybrids plan.
›I am on a visa. Can I still apply?
Yes, if you hold work rights and a valid driver licence. Uber and DiDi set their own licence and driver rules on top of ours. More on our rent to own for visa holders page.
›Is insurance in the weekly payment?
No. Insurance is organised when you pick the car up, because the premium depends on your driving history. You can bring your own policy and we will look at matching the quote. The 3F motor injury insurance a rideshare car must carry is shown when you tick the rideshare box in the calculator.
›What if I need to hand the car back?
The deposit is not refundable, and returning the car early needs written notice. The full conditions are on our rent-to-own terms page. Please read them before you sign.
